Im going to change me cambelt in a couple of days for the first time! but I have one question... the only thing I cant quite get my head around is what to do if you fit the tensioner turn the crankshaft 2 rotations and then the pins dont line up... could someone explain in laymans terms please :?:

If the pins don't line up then you've done it wrong and you'll need to try again.

Or in other words, take off the belt and make whatever small adjustments are needed to allow the pins to fit again. ie- turn the offending pulley until the holes line up and the pins will go in.

That's my 'laymans' understanding anyway. :D

Whilst boning up before doing my timing belt came across the Gates Technical Bulletin ref the automatic tensioner and how to fit it. Explains starting position query mentioned above.

This link to the Gates how to leaflet seems to be one of the best currently available for installing an automatic tensioner on a Mk5 2.5DI.. hope this helps as the link earlier in this strand seems dead.
