Thinking of putting a cossy in the MK3

Couple of questions first thou

1 Will a V6 cossy fit an MT75 box or will a 16v DOHC fit (its got a pinto on at the moment)
2 How easy is the wiring on the V6

I realy vant to fit the v6 but would settle for the DOHC depends what i can find

I have plenty of time to get the parts as i need to get another van first

with the v6 cossie they usually come with a auto box..if its a cossie turbo 4 cylinder you want I think you could use a mt75 with the adapter thats on a pinto engine..the cossy engine has a simalar block to a pinto so should fit but dont know how long the box will last if u cane it in first or second gear with a load in the van..

i think we could do with a how too on fitting a 24v cossy - depending on who gets there 1st
wont be me - but im at the collecting parts stage i can tell you you will need

an adapterplate - found on svo v6 transits eg amby's or modify a pinto-mt75 one- this is only needed if you want manual.
auto you will need a transit stick,prop, mounting etc and use the granada bellhousing and box(ad4l).

engine mountings- either v6 transit mounts or the later mk5 body mounts using the engine hlaf on the granada mounts.

fuel tank- you will need to modify the fuel tank or fit a dohc one to suit the electric pump.

as for DOHC - they were fitted to transits from new so the job should be eaiser - the gearbox mt75 is a one off for those vans and would make the job easier

Not to worried as i will not be carrying a load in this van. this will be my toy

I am looking at fitting a v6 onto the MT75.

i am also looking for oppinions of which is the better engine to go for DOHC or v6

thats easy the 24v V6 200bhp and torque to match
the DOHC is a decent performing engine that will return decent MPG the V6 wont

The V6 will probably be the same as the pinto is at the moment then

what mpg are you getting form the pinto
even pintos running well are not the best mpg - your other option is pinto injection - very similar performance to dohc's, the mpg wont be as good but it's better than carbed ones and the pinto is a stronger engine than a dohc

I am getting 19 in town and 22 on a good run . did have 14 with the fuel shut off removed

Did think about injection pinto and then decided to keep it as it is for now.

Once i get my ex RAC van the MK3 will have 3 options
1 Scrap
2 Sold
3 Cosworth and project to keep me busy

are you talking DOHC 16v cossy? or the ford one? if your talking YB cossy theres no comparison, it wipes the floor with the v6 cossy and after its finished wiping it eats it alive

the one mike is fitting is a YB - very expensive and even more so if they go wrong 24v V6's can be bought for the price of a YB piston

ive considerd loads of engines for my mk1 - including non ford ones but the one i'm going for is the 24V V6 cossy, i rejected the 2.0 YB Turbo for the cost, my second choice would be the I4 2.3 or 2.0 16v dohc from a scorpio!

but if i was building a project van for fun i think i'd go mid mounted V8 BMW or something 350bhp - ive not looked into them deep enough but the big bmw 750s and mercs, jags etc. can be bought for not much - take the engine out big BHP for not big ££££

I think i will definatly go fot the V6. I toyed with the idea of the Mid mounted Rover V8 and decided there was too much work involved

Anyway a v6 is plenty for driftin wach out 100ps
