Gear Box - new oil time

pricilla my v reg smiley needs some new gearbox oil i think as she is very very reluctant to go into 2nd gear when cold, once warmed up the gears are all fine but the first few miles - i go from 1st to 3rd to avoid causing her obvious pain.

can i change the oil myself ?? where does it come out from and where does it go in ??? if anyone can help i would be grateful - and what oil do people use ??

The specific oil is actually called MT75 oil
You should see a drain plug to let the old oil out and about half way up the side, is the filler plug
Keep filling 'til the oil starts coming back out of the hole

Hi, Book says 1.25 ltrs, but found no-one round here sells it in 1 ltrs.. so bought 5 and gave the rest to a mate.
Don`t forget to put the bottom bung back in before filling up Don`t laugh..it`s been done.
Also your second gear issue may be the start of something else, but fresh oil will not go wrong.

yeah ive forgotten to put it back in on a bike before, an expensive mistake as a big oily puddle appears, then that moment when your brain cant co-ordinate stopping pouring, with the oil running out !!

thanks for that i will get some new oil in. yes i know its probably the start of something more serious, but if i can nurse her a long a while longer that will do for me, hopefully if all goes well with fatmaggot.com this year and we sell lots of t's i will be trading her for a LWB one, so i can stop towing the caravan and put a small sleeping area in a LWB still leaving me room for stock etc

Andy gave you a url for oil, but as ,unless you have some, you would need two ltrs...your local
motor factor will sell you five ltrs for about £17-18...entirely your shout of course
You just dabbling with the lwb, or got one in sight We love our old banger, has`nt let us down...yet
has a couple of issues, but had great help from on here..We`ll see how you go on
