mk5 passenger seat?

Postby fordmaniac » Wed Mar 24, 2010 11:21 pm

hiya guys, i want to make my van into a camper and remove the double seat and fit a singl but is it ok to fit another drivers seat to the passenger side or do you have to fit a single passenger seat say out of a tourneo? i dont really want to start drilling holes in the floor? will a drivers seat fit with the runners fit the passenger side without any mods? any advice appreciated gaz

I believe a drivers seat will fit to the floor ok but the recliner handle and the seat belt buckle will be on the wrong sides

I have had 2 mk 5s, which I have converted to single passenger seat, detest the double one, cramped and un-adjustable. The floorpan on mk5 is already drilled and captive nuts welded in place on the underside. If you lift the matting you should find series of grommets which are a b****r to get out but they protect the thread on the captive nuts. The only issue will be on the later seat sliders the will be the seatbelt pre-trensioners which will be obviously on the wrong side and not transferable.
The hardest part I have found is to locate a decent set of runners as owing to con and use regs the threads are stuck through the floorpan by at least an inch. My advice is if you locate a set still in situ' offer to remove them yourself with lots of penatrative oil and patience. I have located several in the past but owing to the knuckle-draggers at the scrap yards insisting on removing them thereselves have knackered up the torx screw heads making them vitrually impossible to remove without damaging the runners.

My Mk5 was biodegradable and disintegrated with time.
