Roof height on a low roof mk5?

Postby kentgpz11 » Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:08 am

Can anyone tell me the roof height of a low roof mk5, as the local council recycling centre has a 2m - 6'6" barrier & I don't want to be parking outside & handballing everything in.
Also, I believe a mk6 low roof is about 1" short of 2 metres, is this correct?
I think I posted this in the wrong section previously.
Thanks in advance. :?

I've not bought one yet. That's why I want to know the height. :)

According to my Transit owners guide the roof height of a swb low roof 80-150 is between 1964mm - 2043mm depending on the model

I presume the lower the weight limit, the lower the suspension, the lower the roof height.
Is this correct? :?

yes

120s are pretty high at the back... Having said that when you put a load in it it will get lower ;)

Mine's only an 80 so it will be the lowest, another thing to consider when going under barriers is your aerial

Right, just been out and measured mine, from the ground the height is 1940mm not including the aerial so it will be pretty tight under a 2m barrier, you will need to remove your aerial to avoid damaging it, you could always lower your suspension to reduce the height

Well from personal experience, I can say that my old MK3 120swb always made it under all 2m height restrictions, even unladen and standing a bit high at the rear, as they do. Wether that is due to a little generosity on the part of the height restrictors or not I don't know, but it always made it and I became quite confident about going under them and never had a scrape!
I once measured the height at the rear, and it came out at 2.01m, or 79".

All this talk of height barriers reminds me of my old next door neighbour, he had a Seat Alhambra and I had a Ford Galaxy which we all know are the same car. I had roof bars, step-ladder and a 4" pipe on the top and I used to go into the local multi story carpark with no problems yet he refused to go in it saying his car was too high

Also reminds me of th etime I shot under a height restriction that i'd been under loads of times before, unfortunately I forgot I had ladders on my roof this time and ended up completely trashing my ladder clamps
