Oil leak between Head Gasget?

Postby Bluevanman! » Thu Apr 01, 2010 10:59 am

I was taking my old Manual Pump off my MK 5 Turbo to replace the pump with a Re-Con 146 Bosch then found an oil leak from between the main block and the head. It is only a little leak but, is it going to get worse? And if it is-is it best to remove the head and replace the gasget?
The Engine runs sweet, never smokes, could it be a duff gasget?
Also there is some oil on top of the head by the injectors but i think this is a leak from the breather pipe?? It isn't the rocker cover because that has a new gasget 2k aga. Will take the manifolds of the top of the engine tonight to get a better look.

Suggestions??

Pick is of the leak right where the pump is (was)

Looking at that pic i wouldnt say that your head gasket has gone there looks to be oil on the head behind the manifold as well as on the block

that is the norm on a turbo, it comes from the inlet manifold, just re tighten all the 13m bolts up and steam clean it off. do not panic IT IS NOT THE HEAD GASKET. :) ps, and if it is not the 100ps, then put the 100ps injectors in. so first try it with the (if it is the 85ps in) and then change to 100ps brown spot and then let us all know. :D http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/stanadyne ... ectors.php

Thanks for all the replys, had a closer look and it seems to be from around the inlet manifold. I tightend up the bolts. They were tight but not that tight!!
Also oil around the blanking plug on the inlet manifold, again was not that tight!

I replaced the engine before christmass from a normal DI to the Turbo Engine so Finding little things that need sorting!!

Hmm 100ps will keep my eye out for a set! My engine has 85ps injectors at the mo!

Just need to find the oil leak at the back of the engine, i think its from the lift pump flange. I hope it is not the prop bearing oil seal!
