Rear Shock upper mount problem

Found this today while I thought I would have a quick check on the rust situation under the van. I'll let the pictures to the talking.





Now clearly this isn't right, but I was wondering what I need in order to sort it. Is there supposed to be a rubber/metal bush in there, has it failed and fallen out/crumbled away.

Or is the shock a one piece thing?

Will the shock be nackered now.

Yes, the shock mounting bush has worn away

You may be able to get a new bush and replace it, but it may be easier to replace the shock

You may possibly be right, bushes can be a sod, especially if the remnants are still in there.

Is it usual practice to replace shocks in pairs? Similar to brakes; to keep the balance right, or is changing one perfectly acceptable?

Personally ................... I would change both

Thats cool, a quick look on ebay says they aren't too pricey.

The likes of Monroe and Spax make some of the best ones, but I would plump for the ebay ones for a van. Ford can be surprising with prices sometimes ................. worth checking first
