speedo questions

Postby stuartwilkins1 » Mon Apr 19, 2010 7:55 pm

first of all Ive replaced the gearbox in my mk5. The old one was old style speedo but the new box is for an electronic speedo. The thread is there to accept the cog but a bung is in place, so

1 can I remove the bung and expect to find the inside ready to accept the cog, or
2 how do I fit an electronic speedo from scratch, whats needed etc.

I'm pretty sure that the drives can be swapped/replaced on the box, but hopefully, someone who actually knows, will come along later :D

you will need to remove the bung and transfer the drive gear over from your old box.

Basically remove the speedo sender unit and pull the drive gear out. (your old one will probably have a plastic cover) remove the bung and put the drive gear from your box in along with the cover from your original gearbox

ive got the sender from the old box, if you mean the piece that sits in the hole and bolts on and plugs in the other end. Its just that someone mentioned that when I remove the plug that the inside may not be compatable but they wasnt 100% sure so wondered if someone was.
