Starter solonoid

The van has had an intermittant problem starting latley, the starter solonoid has been firing but the starter doesnt run, after much twiddling we found if you tapped the solonoid while trying to start her the starter motor would run up. I`ve pulled the solonoid out and stripped it down, the problem appears to be the main contacts in the solonoid are badly worn, I cleaned them up with emery cloth to get rid of the burnt bits (cleaned everything else while I was at it), reassembled it and now the engine starts first turn of the key. My question is, are the contacts available from anywhere, as I dont see the point in buying a complete motor assembly when it just the contact blocks that are at fault.

I dont know where you would get the contacts from, i think you would struggle Gromet
Was the solenoid all gunked up inside?

Its was a bit guncked up on the plunger but not too bad, its the main heavy current switch contacts that are causing the problem, its been firing but the contacts are so worn as their not bridging the gap proberly between the 2 terminals.

Try a place that refurbs starters

if its a Bosch starter you will get a new solonoid for about £25 from a bosch dealer
