hmm change pump.. or change whole lump

Postby acarpen9 » Mon May 03, 2010 10:33 pm

Hi.. again.

3 probs fixed, another one comes.. and bigger each time.

Now have fuel pissin out the Lucas Cav pump, getting bit sick of entire system, more leaks than a collinder, Lump now near refuses to start and cuts out a short time after firing up. Effectively no van at minute.

So, am toying with ideas, first of all, where the leak is from is it just a repairable seal on the shaft? Starting to consider the costing of buying another Lucas Cav pump, cost of fitting, on what is a tired engine is it really worth it, what will die next..... would it be more cost effective to buy a newer banana lump and have that fitted instead..

Have you guys upgraded a lump rather than continuing to battle against Lucas Cav pumps, or is it cost effective to switch to a bosch injector setup, bearing in mind I have to factor in labour costs, as not sure how to do such things.

Thanks again

andy

That's the wrong pump for that engine anyway, it should have a Bosch pump.

Plot thickens.... Reg Doc says it's auto petrol. A mere identity crisis, or bas*ard offspring of Satan??

That engine looks like mine, a 70ps Di, but the Lucas pump is a bit of an oddment as they haven't used them since the Mk4 :?
1994 Mk4 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (R.I.P.)
1997 Mk5 SWB 115 Minibus 70ps Di (Gone, but not forgotten!)
2004 Mk6 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.0 TDDi - Vantunered (Also gone)
2008 Mk7 SWB T280 Medium Roof 85PS 2.2 TDCi - Also Vantunered
