Soddin rear brakes

Postby phoenix » Thu May 06, 2010 4:55 pm

Failed the MOT on OS rear brake showing little or no effort so put new shoes in both sides & took it for re-test, that side is now ok but the NS rear is now showing little or no effort. What's going on?

The problem sounds like it could be the nut that holds the wheel then.

Did you free up the auto adjusters and actually "service" the brakes or just replace the shoes?

As far as i could make out, the adjusters are attached to the shoe. So in this respect they were freed up i suppose. What happens after this i don't know. Am not a mechanical numpty but not familiar with drum brakes.

strip off the shoes, wire brush the adjusters and the hub, check the actual cylinders for free movement and any leaks from the rubbers and if all is free and working put it all back together!
if the cylinders dont move freely take them out and clean them up. dont think many places do seal kits now so may need to find yourself a new / second hand one.
