What holds this together?

Postby Phazbat » Tue May 18, 2010 6:02 pm

Hi folks, any help would be much appreciated - what kind of clamp holds these together, and is it possible to buy the clamp on it's own? Have tried phoning the local Dovercourt Ford spares department, but the 'assistant' couldn't identify himself, let alone the part I was after -kept insisting it was the exhaust downpipe....so I thought I would try asking people who know :)
(The residue is from a 3-in-the-morning-and-only-a-few-miles-from-home-wrap-gaffa-tape-around-it bodge  )

what you can do is bypass the EGR, (cable tie the butterfly open) and put a blank under the pipe where it meets the exhaust manifold

Looks like its probably blown out ,I had this happen - replaced with a brand new pipe and within a couple of days it had blown again .Best way forward is to block off ,insert a metal blanking plate between bottom of egr pipe and manifold .Metal from a tin can will do but better if guage is a little thicker.

Thanks for the replies, I'll go and have a blank....how critical is bypassing the EGR,(cable tie) or can I just blank?
Apologies if I'm being dense - more used to working with two wheels than four...
Oh, and location = N.Essex.

Blank it off and see how the engine runs... you will then want to cable tie it open!

Seriously if you want to know what its like not tied open it wont do any harm (provided your not backed up to an open window or white wall etc  )

sorry hijacking post but was reading with interest and had a question for you guys. So if you just cable tie the butterfly open and not blank it off you only get half the mod as it still pulls exhaust gas through. Does blanking off have any benefits .

You don't have to blank it off, unless its causing a problem as above, cable tying the flap open will stop exhaust gases being drawn in ................. job done :D
