Rear tailgate - wash/wipe

Postby johny transit » Tue May 25, 2010 8:46 pm

I took the rear panel off my tailgate in order to re trim and got distracted by the fact that the wiper motor isn't connected. It was held in with a single bolt, the other two holes being unused as they didn't quite line up with the holes in the panel. I fixed it in properly with three screws but it makes me think it might be off another van and perhaps never have been wired.
Questions : what do the switches for the wiper and the squirter look like and/or which blanks do they go in?
I have three wires on the motor, brown for earth I guess and one of the black ones metered out a few ohms to it, so guess that's the 12v?
cheers

As you say the rear wiper motor has 3 wires.

One is earth (Brown).
One is an ignition live feed that parks the blade at the bottom of the screen.
One is a switched ignition supply (either from the rear wiper switch or via a timer relay) to run the wiper.

To find out which is which connect the brown wire to earth and put +12 volts to one of the other wires. If the motor runs all the time then this is the one to connect to the switch (or relay). If the motor runs briefly and stops or doesn't run at all (it may already be "parked") then this is the wire to connect to the ign. live to park the blade.

Excellent, thanks. I have three places for switches to the left of the wheel, and another two left of the heater. All are blank except the centre one of the three, which looks as though it might be the heated rear screen (a screen looking thing with wavy lines eminating), so I guess one iether side would be squirt and wipe. (Oooer missus). When it's light I'll have a look to see if the connectors are behind the blanks.

I'll post in the relevant section but while we are on the subject perhaps someone has the relevant switches I could buy?
