Knocking, Power Steering??????

Postby Discobandit » Sat Jul 31, 2010 6:39 pm

Good Evening,
took the van on it's first real trip today and coming home something has happened.
Set off back home this evening, first junction thought I heard a clunk as I hit the brake. Pulled away. A faint Knock, knock, knock etc. sounded like it was wheel area but couldn't pin point where. Then it stopped. Took it easy on the way home then about a mile to go, braked. Knock, knock, knock etc but much louder:(
Again sounded like wheel area. No adverse driving problems until I turned into the drive. When I got to almost full lock the power steering started to judder as if trying to force the steering the other way.
Sat on the drive turned to both full locks and it happens both ways.
Would the knocking and power steering judder be interlinked. Or am I way off the mark?
Cheers
Gary

Sorted :D Drivers front wheel nuts had come loose. Not alot, but enough :o Checked wheel bearings while I was there and then torqued wheel nuts to correct setting. I'll keep my eye on them for a while.
Power steering slipping belt psv suggested. Flapping around so much I'm surprised it worked at all.
One last question, is the wheel nut loosening a problem on the 6 stud or is it just that I've had the wheels on and off so many times without it being run?
Cheers
