Towing - Again!!!

Hi,

Sorry all, but have seen the towing thread, and am a little confused!
We are looking to buy a Transit for work, and to pull our car trailer from time to time.
What will a mid 90's 2.5d 190 pull??
Looking at the other thread - a 120 would be no good?

If I remember correctly the 190 2.5D can tow 3.5T. Not sure that I'd want to tow 3.5T with a Transit, but there you go! Will check my manual to make sure later on.

We are looking to pull around 2/2.25T.
Not that often - and not that far!
90% of our tow work is to the paintshop that is 25 miles away. The vast majority of the cars are empty shells too - but we need to be able to pull a complete car as and when too!

i would go for the 190 lwb that will tow well and be stable! unless you are lucky and find a twin wheel 230!

panel van or chassis cab??? only 230 van is a hi cube or ex police uprate there 190's to 3995kg other than that 230 is available in lwb chassis cab and lwb double cab

from memory a 190 has a GVW of 5500kg so with a fully loaded van (3500kg) it will still pull 2000kg

yeah thats right luke I had to wait till driver of the lutonvan came home till i could check on that as well.
dont forget to see if licence will allow you to tow..

dont forget to fit your tacho if your pulling that much weight, my Hilux has a sticker stating that if i tow to its full potential i will have to have a tacho fitted, so i would say a 190 Transit is a defo

theres some strange complecated rules re. tacho's like they dont count on a sunday or is it weekend if its not for hire and reward etc. not sure what they all are but apparantly if i tow 2 race cars im ok

3.5T and above - for hire/reward does require a Tacho - not sure about the weekend bit - be good to hear more!!
What sort of MPG does a 2.9ltr Tranny return??!!

If you are tyowing two race cars and they are yours (or not for hire or reward) you do not need a tacho.
The guy that built my beaver tail only fits removable tow bars as if it is permanent the Ministry will insist on a tacho.

190 Transits need Tacho to tow over 750 kg

There are a few exceptions but I 'll be here

all day typing if you want to know them all.

230 Transits require tachos at all times even

without a trailer.....Again with a few exceptions!

Can I be a pain and ask for as much info regarding Tacho's and 'O' licensing as possible?!

We are in need of transporting the odd Jaguar/Daimler on a trailer. Total weight - 2500/2700kg?
As a business - this brings in such laws!
