brake vacuum pump ?

hi, today my brakes decided not to work, one min they are ok, the next brake pedal gone rock hard and i had difficulty stopping. i think it could be the brake vacuum pump, is there anyway of testing this pump (behind the alt.), and what is the lickely cause for its failure. thanks.

poor maintanace yep not regular enough oil changes does it take it off and take it apart and see for your self they usually have self destructed

cheers, are they easy to replace & do they cost a lot......

fairly easy to change but if i were you (past experience ) clean out all the oil lines to and from the pump not sure on cost frauds charge a lot i seem to remember we got a pattern one from transit part centre (suppliers section ) it was about £29 +p+p

does the pump get red hot within a few seconds from startup (cold) if so theres a blockage

the pumps warm/hot, also there is a faint whirring noise since it happend !

YE SAME SIMPTOM HERE one minute fine next panic and odd wurling noise had a look and yes its fu$ked found oil in vacum pipe at throtel vacum pipe and the plastic sensor bit at right side of bulk head .i think i read some wer it can efect the power to?
