Loss of power

Postby TakeZor » Tue Dec 14, 2010 8:32 am

Hi,first time I have used this forum and have read quite a few problems to do with lack of power but haven't come across any that really sound like mine.
I have an Sreg lwb hitop diesel and when i start the engine from cold it will always find its bite point and have power up through the gears but as soon as the engine has got sufficiently warm and i have to slowdown or stop the power just drops off and no matter how much rev i give it, it never regains the power it had when it was cold.Have asked quite a few mechanics and their responses have not been able to shed any light as to why its fine when its cold but like a slug as soon as it warms up.

Funny you should mention that as a mechanic guy was having a look as he had said you could disconnect one and see if that made a change in performance but when he looked it wasnt the type of pump he thought it was.Was that what you were getting at ?

It probably could do with a service as i havent had it done for over a year but even when i did have it serviced it was still doing the same although it has been a gradual loss in that some days it would get the power you wanted then others be a slug but now it is always the same as i have described in my first post.

And in the summer of 2009 i had one of the injectors changed and the garage said that they were not sure if the injectors in the van were the correct ones for that model dunno if this has any bearing..

You need to get the top of your pump re conned, used to cost me around £80 at Parkinsons diesel in Lincoln, took them about 4 hrs to do, the little piston type thing in the top sticks stealing all your power
