Oil in Inlet manifold

Postby Ecosse » Thu Sep 07, 2006 10:59 pm

Hi All
Got oil in the inlet pipe between turbo and inlet manifold, does this mean turbo seals on the way out as i suspect :?:
It doesn't seem to be causing much (if any) smoke from the exhaust, and power seems okay, but the inside of the inlet pipe is wet with oil, is there anything else that could cause this, or am I grasping at straws :?

Cheers

Are you using oil? If not then I guess it's probably just the breather.

Using a bit of oil, not excessive, 1lt in 3000mls
Would that not soak the air filter as well though?

You don't say what year or engine it is but isn't the breather after the air filter?

Just been out and stripped the air filter and turbo pipes.
The breather joins the intake just at the exit of the air filter to the turbo in as you say, and there is no oil in the turbo or in the turbo to inlet manifold pipe!

There is still oil lying in the inlet manifoldin the level part around the egr (which is disconnected), could it be coming from somewhere else :?: :?

Any ideas?

Alex

Could it be because of the EGR? TBH as it isn't using much oil and it isn't smoking I really wouldn't worry about it! As they say of it ain't broke, don't fix it!

a small bolt has either come loose or fallen out completely on the rocker shaft.

if your not careful the engine will pick up on the oil and do it's impression of an F1 engine

sounds like it's filling the rocker cover with excessive amounts of oil and it's forcing it's way past the filler cap and into the breather system. from there it runs down into the air box.

Now there would be something to see, my old tranny Di doing an impression of an F1 engine :o

i seem to have lost a few worlds from the first post

If too much oil gets around the valves, it can get pulled over into the inlet when pulling hard.

the inlet pipework has a connection from the filler cap ahead of the turbo, so the oil gets pulled through the turbo and into the inlet manifold.

if you get a really bad case of it, they hit soem crazy speeds.

might just be a weak diaphram in the filler cap though, but that doesn't sound as exciting
