the engine has done 155k, it does have a slight "wobble" at idle but sounds as though all cylinders are firing.
could the unburnt fuel you mention be an injector? causing wobble?
how could i check this?
i was worried blue smoke was worn out engine.
how can i check the pump settings- any manuals on the forum. it doesn't look like it has been opened or touched. generally it runs ok.
will cable tieing flap open affect my cold starting etc?
soz for all the points but really am worried
Unburnt fuel is too much fuel going into the cylinder, it has to go somewhere, unlikely that an injector is putting in too much fuel as a blocked injector is more common. Having said that you might have three blocked injectors and one good one, which would cause a wobble. Use a injector cleaner additive in the fuel.
Blue smoke could indeed be a worn out engine, too much oil in the engine is the same symtom as there is a point at which the oil has to go somewhere. Rough idle will be a fueling issue or possibly a timing one, when was the belt last changed?
Many people complain about smoke when they are nothing like the Batmobile, but there is a limit to what is acceptable and what is not. I have seen very new cars billowing smoke under acceleration (TDCI's mainly) which can't be correct but I can't see your van.
There are no settings as such on here, the correct way to set the pump is to get a Deisel Pump Specialist do it from scratch with whatever flow meters they use and that is NOT cheap.
The Cold start 'might' be effected but until we get the real cold weather you won't know, (cold start doesn't just mean starting from cold) but if you have kept the connecting rod as I said in the thread you can replace it in minutes.
It is all a trade off as the system was designed to have a variable air intake and you have it now set on full...but under full acceleration the flap opens to full anyway.
Think about where the vaccum starts, it is the oil filler cap and oil vapour will get sucked up and over time it will clog up the pipes and EGR unit itself, as Kapri found his was FULL of oil, now due to how the EGR recirculates the gases, if one part of the circuit is full of oil, where will it go? back through the system and ultimately down the exhaust pipe and so you WILL get smoke because of this.
