Brake Fluid Renewal

Whats the safest and simplest way to get all the old fluid out and replace with fresh stuff?

super dot 4 brake fluid, i know it says dot 4 on the cap but its super dot 4, best way is with a pressure bleeder but if you havent got one of those just pumping the pedal will be fine, start with the nipple furthest away from the master cylinder and pump the pedal till the resevoir is nearly empty then top and give it about another 10 to 15 pumps keeping the level topped up, that will put fresh fluid in the resevoir, then go to the next nearest and give that about 10-15 pumps and continue untill you have done all 4 corners, my advise is do the bleeding with the engine running as this will open all the valves in the abs pump and make it easier to bleed

Dont bother with the brake bleeding and just Syringe out most of the master cylinder without going too low and top it up with new.Give it a couple of weeks and do it again.Repeat at will.

That only cleans out the resevoir, it will never clean the fluid out all the way to the pistons

The stuff moves around Ake thats why you have plenty in the resevoir.If it didnt then whats in the resevoir would always be brand new and we know thats not how it is.

The brake fluid can only go forward when the pedal is pressed, and then back when the pedal is released, it doesnt circulate, as the brake system is sealed, the only part that vents is the resevoir cap.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, and the brake resevoir cap has a small hole in it, so that the resevoir can vent, otherwise if this wasn't there, then when your brake pads wear down, the brakes wouldn't work as there would be a vacuum problem. and the other thing why you have to change the brake fluid is, because the brake get really hot when used,so with the fluid getting hot and then cold, this causes the brake fluid to deteriate over time. Thats why they recommend changing the brake fluid every couple of years.

how can the fluid thats in the rear caliper or wheel cylinder that on some transits is over 2 metres from the master cylinder ever going to get back to the resevoir??????????? please tell me as im a fully qualified ford tech and would really like to know how this can happen????????????????

I dont care where you work TAZ its NOT as cut and dried as you would like to think!

Of course Brake systems dont circulate but thats not the same as no movement and movement there most definatley is.

Heres a debate that is on the very same subject and varying opinions.Of course nobody including me is argueing that a complete refresh is the best option but there is an alternative for people who dont wish to go to them lenths.
