I would try squirting wd40 into what you can see of mechanism, plus down the barrel ...operate (turn lock) several times whilst pushing on the bonnet a few times.

if it then comes loose and opens. you then can get at it. disassemble it and free it up and lube it properly.

The first turn clockwise should release the bonnet. second turn anticlockwise should release fully.

all the best...mark

I would try a newly cut (unchipped) key before to go to the trouble of replacing the lock.
I had 3 keys for my Mk6, none of which would open the bonnet, and all of which operated all of the other locks. I had a new basic key cut which worked straight away, which I kept, hidden, inside the van for bonnet opening.

I had this on my previous transit, it was actually not the lock at fault, it was the key was very worn, it still worked perfectly well in the ignition though. I got a replacement key blade cut and the new " sharp edged" key worked a treat for the bonnet , local key cutting place charged about £12 for a blue transit type blade.

oops just noticed a previous comment said the similar thing !!

I had that on my ol’ mk6, I just took the latch off and threw it away, fitted some bonnet pins instead.
