Urgent Assistance Required: MK7 Sliding Door Issue

Postby Bespoke44 » Wed Jun 05, 2024 6:48 pm

Hi all,

I urgently need help with a sliding door problem on our MK7 Transit camper conversion. This is not your typical sliding door issue. The sliding door has locked shut, and while I can access the back of the van, it is full of stock for our market work. The barn doors, passenger door, and driver’s door all open, but the central locking has never worked.

We need to access the van urgently to be able to work this weekend. The main issue is that I don't know which parts to buy, and I can't get inside the van to attempt any repairs. To clarify, we have a black key with no central locking, the sliding door is locked shut, and we can't get the contents out because the rock and roll bed is bolted in the back. Climbing over the front is not an option as it's full.

Please help with any advice on how to unlock the door or what parts I might need to fix this issue. can send videos or what ever you need thank in advance guys and girls any help greatly received

Thank you.

How have you been locking the door if the central locking doesn't work?

Can you get to the side door to try and unlock it from the inside..? The lock is on the rear edge of the sliding door - if you can get to the inside of the van body you will see a small cut out/hole in the door about 30cms up from the floor. get a screwdriver into the hole and turn it (clockwise I think?) you should be able to hear/feel the lock click and that should be the lock open. Try the door... if its not the lock - it could be the cable snapped/stretched on the handle.

Thanks for the reply , been locking it from the outside with a key , I’ve never been able to get out from in , because the the little black thing never worked ? Where is this cut whole . It’s kinda magical if I can find it . I’m really stressed as if I can get the van slide open I should be able to fix it or buy what’s needed .

You need to get inside the van - and when looking at the door the hole is on the left hand side approx 30cms below where the window would be in a minibus it should be fairly obvious (approx 15/20mm in diameter) unless you have an aftermarket covering attached to the door..? Most mk6/7 transits don't have a key/barrel on the outside of the sliding door..?

You mentioned "A little black thing"... I'm now wondering if that could be in the "hole"..? try pulling/levering it out and putting a screwdriver into the hole - it could be that the black plastic thing has snapped..?
