Another heated windscreen question..!

Postby Rowdey » Wed Jan 31, 2007 10:35 pm

Hi there,
i have couple of really small bullet holes type chips in the front screen, and was initially looking to get these repaired, but Autoglass (or similar insurance approved co.) said they will replace it, not repair it..

After they asked if it has a sunstrip (lied and said yes) i asked how much extra for a heated screen, and have been told nothing (still just a £60 excess)

Reading through previous threads, it would appear the plug/wiring is in place in door pillar, and i know i would need the switch, but is there a problem with installation ? Without having seen a heated screen, does it have two wiring tails that can 'hang' on the inside until i get it connected up ? Any other points to note ?

Cheers all
:D

the wiring tails are hidden by the A pillar interior trip panels, the wiring should be present on the A pillars too, but you'll need to add the relays and switch etc.

Ah..yes not expecting heated to be tinted as well - it's a case of 1st pref for heated, or 2nd pref for with tint..

Worth giving you a call ? - I'm south London, and going through Highway Insurance with £60 excess.

Just a quick follow up - I'm due to get my new heated screen fitted tomorrow, and have peeled back the trim between screen and door on both sides, and can only find a loom with no tails on the right hand side, and a similar loom and aerial (?) on the left hand side..also with no tail.

Searching through other posts and answers, i think i should have a red spade tail on both sides if heated screen wiring is in place...is that right :?:

I have the 4 buttons/blanks below the heater controls if that gives a pointer to me having the right wiring in place..

Also, I don't have a Haynes or similar yet, how do i actually get the aforementioned trim off..can only get the top and middle bit released, not the bottom bit, and it's really annoying me :x

Lots of writing, so cheers for sticking with me this far, and thanks for any help you can give.
