drivebelt tensioner

2.4 duratorq, looks like my belt tensioner is knackered. any body done this job before? how easy is it?. i cant actually see how its attached to the block. :roll:

Can't really help you here, but maybe when you go for the fix you can take some pictures and tell us how you did it later on in the How To.. section.

fitted new tensioner, peice of cake!. :D

1. take off top fan cowl, three torx screws hold it on.watch out for wiring that runs across top
2. insert 3/8" drive breaker bar into square hole on tensioner, make sure this is firmly in place. keep pushing in with free hand if necessary. tensioner is made out of very soft alloy and bar will twist out if not carefull.
3. rotate tensioner anti clockwise to release drive belt.
4. undo central bolt on tensioner and remove, tensioner will now pull away from front of engine.

refit in reverse order. 30 mins max :D

forgot to add, make a note of belt routeing, if it falls off its like a chinese puzzle to get it back on :wink:
