oh no.....

i whent to check the water in the header tank, opened the top looked in and i found what i thought was oil in the water,so i took it back to the people who built the engine,so he looked dipped his finger in,tasted it sniffed it and assured me it wasnt a blown gasket and it wasnt oil,cus i wasnt over heating or loosing an unfeaseable amount of water,it uses the amount between the top level mark and the sticky out ridge about every 4-5 thousand miles,so any thoughts on this brown murky sludge could it be residue from the rad?bearing in mind the rad probly hasnt been flushed in 302,000 miles, the vans running constantly for about 10-18 hours a day on motorway????

has the sludge suddenly appeared?

If so, it would suggest an oil cooler failure as being the prime suspect.

If it's been there a while it might be down to the coolant system not being cleaned correctly.

Aerial liquid works well to remove oil contamination from within the cooling system :)
