2.4 tddi turbo wastegate rod

while i was replacing clutch i noticed the wastegate rod has a nut on for adjustment so i undid it a few turns so it was showing more thread then retightened it,i cant work out if it feels faster or not, does anyone know if it will make any difference and if so am i adjusting it the right way???

shortening the rod ups the boost if my memory serves me right
