MK6 reverse gear: crunching and non-operation

Postby NICKMARRA1984 » Wed May 20, 2015 3:51 pm

hi my names nick, this is my first post and was wondering if you could help

2001 ford transit (swb) (high top)
2.0L Duratorq DI (100PS) (98.5HP) (1998 cc)
VIN Number: WF0VXXBDFVYS36358
Registration Number: Y327PMW

I bought the above van a few weeks ago and ive only driven it a few times, yesterday it had trouble getting into reverse/crunching and was not working unless I pulled it into reverse fairly hard a wiggled it

today it crunches every time I lift the clutch and requires me to pull hard and hold it in reverse to work, sometimes it pops out and sometimes it sits in gear and does nothing when I lift the clutch

I know it could be any number of things but if anyone has any ideas would be grateful

ive tried adjusting the cables and it doesn't seem to work, any adjustment out of the neutral position seems to mess up some of the other gears aswell so ive set it back to normal

I unclipped the cables and manually moved the gear selector and it doesn’t like getting into reverse so in guessing its either the selector or the gearbox itself, my aunts partner who’s a mechanic is going to have a look and ill update soon

Anyhow I drew up a diagram of the gear positions while messing about if its handy to anyone:
