Finding a ground in the cab

Postby Dmcc » Wed Jun 17, 2015 3:22 pm

just playing around with fitting a front mounted camera was thinking of getting power from the cig lighter above the steering wheel but need a ground for it. I have a rear camera and have bought a av splinter so can switch between the two. Have I missed any thing as I'm not hot on this sort of thing any help welcome. Dave

If you are running a wire to the cig lighter you can get a ground from there too, or screw into any of the metalwork in the cab. Don't tap into the interior lights ground as this goes through the door switches.

As for the AV , all sounds good. I bought a 4" screen and mounted it where the mirror should be (bulkhead cab so no rear view mirror) or if you have a mirror you can get a replacement over mirror with a built in screen.

I have a screen head unit with the rear camera already going to it. Only prob I can see is will it mater that the rear camera is triggered when reverse is selected I guess the the other camera shud come on when the av switch is turned. Sounds stupid but how do I find the ground on the cig ligter sorry for being thick

Don't know about your screen, but mine has a preferred feed which overpowers the other. I.e. when the reverse camera comes on (with reverse lights) it overrides the front camera feed.
