Sick Mk7

Postby novakamena21 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 10:54 am

Hi All,Second ost on this as first one vanished..
Im new here but been following for a long time.. My Mk7 suddenly dropped a cylinder...no warnings of any sort. It runs on three with no smoke but it i bring the revs up it sounds like it wants to run on 4. There is crank pressure..a lot. Lot of oil around injectors although there wasnt when I bought it a couple of weeks ago :( Ford are saying its a failure of the injector washers....one being totally goosed. They say this is putting pressure into the system and the fact that it seems to try to run on 4 at slightly higher revs pint to this rather than a piston issue? If I unplug number 3 injector it ticks over the same..injectors seem tight. Van has almost full history and recently had new EGR. Any advice would be great...dont want to pull the engine if it might be this problem. Cheers
SORRY JUST FOUND FIRST POST

There's 2 clamps for 4 injectors so if 1 goes then the other is going to come loose 2 i would think, especially if it is as bad as it sounds. 2 of my washers were reduced to tin foil  but it never sounded like a dead spark plug on a petrol engine(which yours does if that makes sense)

You could have a holed piston or just a crack somewhere, if it is a crack then i imagine that it could be possible that it will want to fire at higher revs.

But either way you need to have it checked, by all means replace the copper washers, fairly routine to do on these and it'll cost less than anything else, but be prepared for it to be the piston, in which case a pressure test is needed on the cylinders etc.

Injector washers are a common fault, I'd certainly be doing them, before anything else

Its number 3 (from the timing chain end) ..Makes no difference if its unplugged, Started to pull the engine today so will have o look. Cost me 1000 Euro to have it recovered when it let go so needs to be right this time even if its new engine time.
Cheers

Thats exactly what it sounds like...I cant see it being the washers but thats what they reckon,,,,Clamps are tight too. Will have it out and have a look. Im in Bulgaria at the moment and getting proper pressure testing done might be a challenge :(
