spare wheel on a mk6

Just discovered I don't have one ??

Tried to lower the mechanism under the van but the bolt for lowering it just keeps turning and nothing lowers underneath.
looked at the mechanism but all the bolts holding it on look very rusty and could be a problem to remove

so my questions are
is this a common fault (so no point in looking for one on a breaker)
and if so can anyone recommend a bracket allowing me to mount the wheel on the rear doorif that help

also its a twin axle t350
