DIY Air Con Pump Change - how hard can it be ?

alright peeps,

2.0 TDDI 55 plate with the air con compressor on the side of the engine. Theres no gas in it so no worries about that but is it a dooable change for a numpty like me ? Anything I need to know ? Does anyone know if there is a step by step in the haynes as i havent bothered to buy one yet ?

You'll need to replace the o ring seals, but other than straightforward if it's already empty of gas

The aircon system contains both a refrigerant and a lubricant.

You've lost the refrigerant but there will still be lubricant in the system.
A sticker on the bonnet shut panel should list the mass or volume of each needed in the system.
When you remove the old compressor you should drain it as completely as possible and measure what comes out so that the correct volume of oil to put back in is known.
If the system has been punctured or open for some time then it is likely your dryer unit has become saturated, this is usually terminal for it as they are one shot devices.
