I should have said can't get any fuel from the filter housing but found a tear in the seal on the filter so hoping that's all it is. Ordered a filter so will see. Ps any tips on bleeding it after. I always fill the filters before fitting them but know they can be swines to bleed. Last thing! I take it it will pull fuel up under cranking??
With the TDCi machines I believe it's best to change the filter as quickly as possible, fill the new filter to the brim before you remove the old one, then as quickly as you can remove the old and fit the new....less chance of too much air getting into the system. Start the engine and run at ~1500-2000rpm for ~30 secs and you should be good to go. If the engine was running fine beforehand....the pump should essentially be "self bleeding", it's not good to run any diesel pump dry as internal damage is usually the result.
If you still find you aren't able to get fuel up to and from the filter, you may have a leaking line from the tank letting air in, be sure to give all the fuel lines to and from the filter housing (as well as the connectors) a good looking at.
