Sorry, got another problem. No brake lights!

Postby dirtydog » Thu Jul 09, 2015 3:02 pm

My brother was following me this morning and told me my brake lights weren't working.
Tested the bulbs, they're ok
Tested the bulb holder, they're ok
unplugged the brake light switch and bridged the terminals, still no lights
Checked the fuse and that's ok as well
Got my multimeter out again and tested to see if I had power to the fuse, nothing not a single volt to be found there! :?

What else could it be?
Everything else works.

Sorry Karl, never had a mk6 before so it's all new to me.
I was on my phone at the time 20 miles from home with no brake lights didn't want to risk driving and getting pulled or rear ended and I had sketchy internet which made searching a very slow process and there were loads and loads of pages of results. So I posted hoping for a quick answer.

ill refrain from asking anymore questions

I checked the fuse list on here and found the fuse for the brake lights behind the dash but couldn't see anything relating to the brake lights on the under bonnet list

you might find one of the fuses in the engine fuse box supplies voltage to the one inside

At the moment I'm robbing the power from the next empty fuse slot either the electric windows or heated rear windows I have neither

Right for my get me home bodge I ran a wire from the adjacent empty fuse space and just wrapped the other end around the leg of the fuse so that it was still fused, after that I grabbed an inline fuse holder I had in the garage and connected it to the live of the spare fuse slot and then to the out of the brake light fuse holder and removed the standard fuse as I figured this would do the job until I had more time to take a look properly. Only thing then was the wipers wouldn't work and neither would the blowers :?

Another oddity is that the blowers work when the ignition is off :? I'm guessing some bits were altered when Clarks did the conversion
