New vans, words of warning

Postby sidspop » Sat May 05, 2007 9:58 pm

Chap came round today to tow a trailer with my 400e cab on it, he went up the kerb opposite, came down with a bump, and smacked the plastic oil filter cover. This shattered, depositing his oil all over the road.

Now the thing is, it's lower than most of the engine, so if you have one of these POS vans, I would advise you are careful going over speed bumps, and dodging bricks in the road.

What was more scary was the Fraud main dealer do not stock them.

Be warned

I couldn't say. The bloke was doing us a favour and ended up with a buggered van. Bad design, the most important bit of the engine in the most clobbereable place. Perhaps Ford designed it like that on purpose, knowing it would get hit.

both the sump and intercooler sit lower than the filter bowl, so he's been lucky to miss those too.

new 2.2 also has the power steering pump and water pump mounted low down at the front of the sump.

It's certainly not a common point of failure, if it were the dealer would stock the part....after all they make money by selling the popular items.
