ford warrenty

Postby mrtaximan » Wed Apr 20, 2005 1:47 pm

hi can someone tell me the official ford position regarding warrenty work on tourneos used as cabs.I ask this because it seems it is up to the dealer doing the work to make a decision.
Are fwd tourneos prone to water pump/power steering pump issues and is any recall in force regarding this.
Can anybody post a ford diagram of a tdci engine and gearbox in fwd and rwd form as i feel this may well be of interest to our members.mark.

ford warrenty on cabs

Postby trannytech » Wed Apr 20, 2005 10:54 pm

llike i said the other day at the main dealer where i work i have done warrenty work on lots of tourneo's and what else was the tourneo designed for other than to be used as a taxi. cant see what difference it being a cab makes to warrenty.maybe the dealer you went to was trying it on to see if youd be gullible enough to pay? dont know of any recalls on waterpumps on tdci engines and ive only changed one in the 5 years they have been out .

Probably a little late to contribute to this thread but here goes.

The concern described in this thread is NOT uncommon on all the FWD Transits, be they in 75/85/100/125 Ps form.

The symtoms are that of overheating, needle in the red and the engine first having power reduced before being turned off by the management system.

If you feel the top and bottom hoses, they are cold and all other pipes are hot. You'll also hear the water boiling inside the system after the engine has cut off.

Once stripped and the power steering pump removed from the water pump, it'll be obvious that the drive splines have corroded away. Once pressure builds up inside the coolant circuit they slip and the pump ceases to do it's job. The power steering pump will still work because thats driven by the rear end accessory drive belt.

It was all caused by water entering into the spline interface between the 2 pumps. It's been rectified during production a long time ago, so newer cases shouldn't appear. There was also a service bulletin released which advised technicians to apply a special waterproof grease to the splines if the pumps are being replaced or removed on in service vehicles.
