Faulty Heater box

Postby joelp67 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 8:53 am

I'm having problems with my heater box, it's a 2005 model so I suppose a Mk7. The fan works fine, the air-con works fine, it blows on your feet fine, it blows in your face just fine but it doesn't blow on the screen. I took it into Dagenham motors yesterday for a service and to gget it checked out, they said I needed a new heater box and it would be £1200 fitted!!! obviously I walked away with a still faulty heater box..... They did say that they had another one recently with the same problem which is why they new what it was with out taking the dash off, the actual heater box has a plastic flap to direct the air to the screen which has snapped off is the explanation. I have had the car from new and have treated it respectfully at all times, if I replace this part and fork out £1200 who's to say it's not going to happen again? I think this should be a recall! BTW I bought this transit from Italy so only got 2 years warranty.... damn!
Any ideas o how to put pressure on Fords to repair out of warranty?
Regards

It will indeed require a new heater box as the distribution flap within the box has become tight and probably also cracked the mixer motor too.

The heater box has no user servicable parts.

The box comes with the A/C evaporator core, the heater rad core and the motor from memory and the retail cost was around 550 ish plus vat

ontop of that you can add a hundred or so for an A/C specialist to drain and refill the system.

I have replaced these boxes in around 3.5 hours, so they aren't a quick job.

RE the out of warranty repair contribution.

Unlikely as you saved a fortune by not buying off a UK dealer, the difference in UK prices is reflected in warranty coverage.

I thought they began in 2006. So it would be one of the last Mk6.

Must say if it indeed snaps that easily the should do something about it and should as well come with some curtosy deal.
I had it with a VW New Beetle. No longer under warrenty but as they knew about problems with the plastic window holders they replaced it (when it broke) with a metal version and for free. That should be the way they should handle things.
