It can be - why not, but first check fuel pressure during start (during start motor work). It should be 350 bar +/- 50 bar. If pressure is outside the tolerance range, start is impossible.
In this case we can have a suspected for air in fuel system or broken IMV valve.
In workshop they have usually extra IMV valve and they can try second one - is it reason of troubles. But if you buy new one and do the same - it is too big risk because of costs.

You have receipts, but you should have papers from pump test. When I did pump regeneration, I got from work-shop four sheets A4 of paper with pump test results (printouts) from BOSCH ESItronic, with pump number, date and time of tests. Before regeneration and after. And it is reliable for me that pump is done ok.

Hello mate thanks for the reply. The pump was done before I got the van I have the receipt for pump but that’s the only paper work I have. The van starts and drive ok it’s just every now again went your giving it some it drops in to limp mode but turn key and back again and it’s fine. Fitting the fuel rail pressure sensor sorted out what was wrong in 1st place.
So would you say I need get the pump tested ?

Yes.
Pump should be removed and sent/given to good Delphi work-shop. Using special tool for pump wheel (wheel holder) while pump removing and testing, you wouldn't have to do any work about timing chain.

I don't know British realities about costs, in Poland full tests and regeneration for Delphi pump costs between 1.500 - 2.500 PLN (300 - 500 GBP)
