help needed please with fuel gauge

i have a 2002 52 reg swb m/roof transit 300 2.0 deisel 70 bhp 35,000 miles,
i just bought the van about a week ago and the problem i have is the fuel gauge or sender unit in the tank im not sure ,anyway my fuel gauge is all over the place 3/4 one min the light coms on then goes off ,1/4 the next ,empty then to full ,when im driving it ,im sure im gona run out of fuel soon but dont know when any ideas ? is it a common fault ?

i have seen a few reading qtr to half when actually empty , not all over the place though.

The fuel tank drops down quite easily ( when nearly empty ) & sender is acessable by undoing a big screw ring thing, the unit that comes out has the sender & pick up pipes in, just swop the whole unit !

for egr/dpf adblue deletes, power tuning, updates,cloning,speed limiter removal,cruise control,acceleration control delete & key's !

yep it is, done mine on my own. much easier with 2 though to ease tank down & back up.. nighthawk posted detailed instructions somehere..
