Which lead to alternator/starter

Postby Parkingspacehog » Sat Apr 10, 2021 3:13 pm

Hello

Having constant issues with flat battery so it’s been suggested to disconnect starter/alternator and see if it’s still draining.

Which one of these three wires goes to the starter/alternator? Saves me scratching my hand to bits trying to get it off either thing.

Thanks

Starter is far more unlikely than the alternator as a drain, just unplug at the alternator.

Have you had a drop test done on the battery, either modern eletronic tester or old skool BIG resistance.

Yeah tested the battery and even bought a brand new one, I now swap between the two! I’ve done a parasitic test and found nothing.

If there is no parasitic draw then it suggests the battery is not charging on the vehicle.

Have the battery volts with the engine running been checked.
Has the alternator wiring been checked for damage.

Charges at 14.7v, it’ll go for days starting fine after a full charge but then just goes flat!

I’ve disconnected the cabin lights always make sure everything is switched off (lights, stereo, fans, etc)

I could really do with a wiring diagram, I need to know where the three wires shown in the picture go? But also where the earths are so I can clean them up and check them.

There is a body control module code in Forscan but I can’t find that issue either, the code is U2101??

Bought an amp tester today and after everything has closed down after about 15 minutes the amp draw was between 00.04 and 00.00.

I checked this for a good 30 minutes and it didn’t change so I’m guessing there is no parasitic draw??
