2009 2.4 tddi cutting out P251A

Postby Hopeful » Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:16 pm

Hi All,

Please could someone suggest how to fix this. I've a 2009 2.4 tddi minibus. Over the last week or so it's been failing to start/cutting out frequently. It's been running regularly over the last year and last got full service at the beginning of this year. When it stops or fails to start it's got these fault lights on. Took it to the garage I usually use and they used a Snap on Solus which would only say something like BCM not communicating and then cleared the faults. It happened 2 times more so I got an OBD and it's showing a fault of P251A. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Aaargh.

Went out and had another look. More codes appeared.

P037D-29 2F Glow plug Signal invalid

P068A - ECm/PCm Power Relay de-energised too early

BCMi U0100 Lost communication with ECM/PCM

Could these all be caused by a bad fuel filter?

Have you checked that both batteries are good? Failing batteries can cause all sorts of strange electrical gremlins :(

(Yours is a TDCi, not a TDDi, by the way)

Thank's for the suggestion (and the correction). I'll get them checked.

The batteries were fine :( Fuel filter changed and fault still there. :(

Did find the sliding door lock had worked itself loose.
I've tightened it up and am clutching at straw that it was the wires on that banging about and causing a fault. I've give it a try when it's cold tomorrow and see if it still does it.

Didn't do it that day or the next but when I relied on it to get me somewhere.... cut out again! Doublechecked the batteries, checked all the fuses, relays and connections (apart from those under the drivers seat). Most were good apart from a loose strap on NS front wheel strut - assuming an earth. Very rusty and lots of play. Cleaned it with a wire brush and taped it so there's an unbroken connection. There was also some corrosion on PCM relay so cleaned that up too. Worked fine. Awful weather forecast tomorrow morning so that'll be a better test.

Fingers crossed that seems to have done it. :) I think it was the earth wire on the front nearside strut. The spade connector wasn't connecting fully with the earth wire and the spiked screw that connects it to the strut was loose. The spiked screw screw holder seems looser than it's supposed to be though. :?
Please could anyone tell me whether there's supposed to be a nut holding it on - I've taped it for now but wonder whether there should vbe something else holding it on? :?: TIA
