Wastegate line/ barb help

Postby DG-Unit » Sun Nov 28, 2021 2:42 pm

Changing the turbo cartridge. Took the wastegate line off the intake housing so cleaning fluids didn't go down it. The aluminium adapter/barb in the housing snapped like it was nothing. Thought it was plastic at first then realised that would be madness on a turbo. Anyone know where I might have half a change of getting this from on a weekday or will I need a new housing?

If you tank the housing off, you can drill and tap it, then fit a new hose tail in there..

Try an engineer supply place they normally have stuff like that, either that or quick steel it on so your back on the road the find a housing at the junk yard

6mm hose tail to 1/8bsp are quite common.

I needed something with an M6 thread to a hose tail about 4-6mm width. Managed to hopefully do a permanent repair with some tube from B&Q for the barb. Scored the inside with light thread (wasn't narrow enough to just give me a nice m6 thread) so filled the hole with aluminium repair rod (Laser 4707) and tapped that out for M6 thread. Made the barb extra long and fitted some extra tight vacuum line over it and held with some hose clips. Pretty sure it's more secure than the original but wondering how well that repair rod stuff will hold with the heat of the turbo. Took about 5mins with a full heat blow torch to get it to melt in so I think it will be fine as it's on the compressor side. Pictures of it here if anyone in the future has the same problem and comes across this thread: https://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=201494&start=210
