Postby ray1965 » Sat Dec 04, 2021 1:06 pm

ok, 2012 mk7, switches next to the hazard switch

i have heated screen on top left
blank on lower left
hazard in the middle
blank on top right
ESP on lower right

upon removing the blanks, both blanks have looms plugged into them

any ideas what would normally be in those blank positions please

Hi,

Here is an extract from my 2012 Mk7 quick reference guide. Should help,

Cheers, Richard

I think you've got enough upgrades on the go. You must have too much free time, :D

Lol, whilst agreed I don’t actually work for a living anymore, time isn’t something I have masses of at the moment but I do like an upgrade lol

Silly thing is. All my classic cars I own are standard lol

Ah but classic cars are worth more in standard original guise

Fair enough and keeps you out of mischief, lol. As I mentioned to you in another post I spent quite a while fixing electrical issues and like you try and keep to original equipment where possible. I've only done a couple of upgrades but both worthwhile. I replaced the awful 6000cd radio with a used Ford DAB radio, with new replacement Ford dab aerial and roof mounting base. The old one was rusted to bits internally and so radio reception was very poor. The other upgrade was for some direct fit led lamps for the rear area as the standard lights were like dim candles and I couldn't see a thing at night in the back. Although not standard you'd never know as it looks the same but so much brighter. They were from ProVanLED.

As for classic cars, I had to sell my pre war Austin and my old ex military land rover. The sea air where we live would have reduced them to rust in a few years. Then again Ford Transit and salty sea air, mmmm - maybe I sold the wrong vehicles, lol

Cheers, Richard

bulb wise, all ive done so far is replace the main front and side light bulbs, i put Ring plus 200% in the dip/main, made one hell of a difference, and put halfords 3500k side light bulbs in the front

normally i would have changed them to HID, but now those and LED's are a definitive MOT failure, i wont be doing that

i need to do something bulb wise in the cab and back, as theyre useless, but looking here, LED's dont seem to work on interior lights, if same as my mk6 its probably due to reverse polarity on one of them, cant remember which one tho

head unit ill probably swap out for aftermarket, as i want a reversing camera, and they are set up for that, its a shame, but the camera is a must, and it will save screens stuck everywhere, it dosnt have to be great sounding either, as im half deaf, so never have a radio on anyway, no wiring in mine for blue tooth either

i live near the sea as well, my classics are kept well covered up in an industrial unit tho, so salty air dont get to them as much

Small LED panel units soldered inside the cab light units will solve the problem of reverse polarity

I have a couple of multiple LED light units in the back, wired in to the existing light feeds.

Rust and salt.
Years ago I had a Toyata pick up. I went away to work for 2 yrs. On my return I found the back of the truck rusted and all the dampers had rusted. The truck was now about 4 yrs old.
It was left between buildings about 1 mile from the sea.
After a stormy night I went up a hill above the bay. The waves were rolling in and the wind was still strong pushing the white horses along. Now and then a gust of wind took the tops of several waves and carried the now atomised sea over the village onto which it dumped the cloud of spray. I could see that the spray was carried further than where the truck was.

You'll need to keep the spray out of your buildings.
