You may have a low pressure fuel system air leak, this allows air in and the fuel siphons back to tank, emptying the fuel filter...takes an eternity to suck it back up again and ultimately making it extremely difficult to start.

There's usually several points in the fuel system where air can get in.....it's just a matter of finding it. Can be difficult to locate as fuel doesn't leak out but air gets in. The fuel pickup system from the tank runs at a very slight vacuum as the pump has to pull the fuel up from the tank, (this doesn't apply to the Euro-5 Mk7's though as they have an in-tank pump). Any part of the low pressure/vacuum side of the system is vulnerable to this problem. Start at the top, injector leak-off lines and O-rings....and work your way back to the pump, filter head and to the tank from there. Even the filter seal can leak.... and the filter head itself is prone to cracking and letting air in.

I'm not saying you have an air leak...it's just that air leaks can often cause cold start issues, especially when the vehicle has been sitting for a few hours or overnight etc. Hot start issues are often something else like a poorly EGR valve, SCV or PRV etc...

All diesel Mk6 & Mk7 Transits "built" from 2000> are Duratorq engines. All Mk6's are built from beginning of 2000 to April 17th of 2006 and all are Euro-3. Mk7's built from April 17 2006 to September 26th 2011 are Euro-4, any Mk7's built after September 26th 2011 to the end of 2014 are Euro-5.

Depending on what year model and whether FWD or RWD can determine which engine you have. Also, each engine type can have several hp ratings. As an example, the Mk6 2.4 RWD only came in 75, 90, 115, 120, 125 and 135hp...the 135 was the only TDCi among them, the rest are TDDi.

Below is just my opinion but often causes me confusion.

We had a chap tell us he had a "13 plate" etc, in which case would make it a Mk7 Euro-5, however, it was actually an earlier 2011 built Euro-4 but wasn't registered until 2013.... which means we gave him the wrong advice on fuel system parts. Some vehicles can sit around at a dealer or warehouse for a couple of years before being "first registered", so that "13 plate" reference can be a bit misleading, it could have been built a year or two earlier. "Build date" is what defines the model. Here in Australia the VIN or build date is what we use for parts ordering etc...so there is no confusion.

Put it into the official Ford ETIS website, you'll get all the info you need from there and it will tell you what your van was when it left the factory.
