Which front wheel bearing for 2.4 RWD 2007?

Postby pet » Sat Jan 22, 2022 9:51 pm

Hello,

I have a noisy front bearing on my 2.4L RWD 2007 MWB van. SKF list two front wheel bearing kits, VKBA 6526, and VKBA 6525. The difference seems to be the bearing inner diameter with the 6526 bearing being intended for an 1850kg axle loading and the 6525 for a 1750 axle loading. On my N/S door pillar there is a plate with the VIN and the following weights:
3500kg
5500kg
1750kg
2250kg

I am guessing that the 1750kg is the weight loading for the front axle meaning I should get the VKBA 6525 bearing kit. Is this right?

I am probably going to replace the hub as it looks difficult to remove from the bearing, what are the reasonably priced brands/suppliers to go for or avoid? Ditto for pads and discs, I see TPUK have a cheap set of discs and pads for 69.95 on eBay. Any good?

Thanks for reading my first post here. This forum has some really great content that has really helped this first time van owner. Thanks again for keeping this forum running.

The larger of the two bearings... is for the heavy duty and/or twin rear wheel, 6 stud wheels.

There have in the past been suspect bearings around.
Buy genuine ford.

For brakes, these seem not to last these days regardless of brand - if your lucky discs last for two sets of pads.
Again, I'd suggest genuine Ford, Motorcraft or a well recognised aftermarket brand like Brembo.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

OK, thanks for the replies. The standard bearing it is.

I have had good results using SKF in the past and they are an OEM for a number of manufacturers. Looking at this eBay listing for a genuine Ford part the first picture clearly shows an SKF bearing for twice as much as an SKF branded part:

6 years ago...and against popular advice, (before I actually knew TBH), I fitted a pair of TPUK supplied front wheel bearings into my 08 LWB RWD.....122k km later and they're still fine...
