Sliding door won't open

Postby Webs10100 » Sat Jul 16, 2022 12:38 pm

Ford Transit 2010 sliding door won't open.
Hi, I'm having problems geting this sliding door open...

1. I push the key fob to open all doors I hear a mechanical sound coming from slide door.
2. Outside lever is broken it doesn't do anything.
3. Inside I move locked/unlocked knob to right and it works like it should.
4. I pull the inside lever "and it moves like it should" but the door won't open?

I watched this video which advised to drill lock mechanism.
I drill it, but I don't understand what to press there?
I'm guessing its different style lock mechanism inside?

Anyone have ideas what to try next?
Heres video what my lock mechanism looks like...

As you press fob to unlock, push in the rear centre of the sliding door.
Obviously make sure the van is locked beofre you do this.

Hah! That actually worked. Thank you very much! :D
Well, I went to cargo space and locked all doors. "Which was bit scary cos there's dark and only one quite working door"
I put some boxes behind my back and pushed the locking mechanism with my feet and same time press the key fob to open all doors.
I saw that knob moving every time when I press fob. I had that knob pointing wrong way it needs to be point left.
After a couple of locks and unlock I pulled the inside lever and door pop open with no problems.
I need to take that whole locking mechanism out someday and look do I have to replace or just maintenance it.

I think he meant push on the door from the "outside"...this helps unload the lock mechanism allowing it to unlock. I often lean my shoulder on the middle rear of the door when opening....pretty common issue when the lock mechanisms get a bit tired.

Oh well either way this inside push seem to work for me, I think that lock/unlock knob might be faulty I need to look at that...

If it is any use to anybody my 2008 2.2 fwd side door will not unlock unless I double click the lock button on the fob to lock all doors then, as said lean against the outer middle of the side door and then press the rear door unlock button on the fob.
If the van is not locked first the lock just gives a gentle click, when it is you can hear it much louder, It has been like this since I got the van 5yr ago.

This is all down to the 3 pin connection between door and body.
Sometimes a clean will do, or maybe order new part.
