Wheel studs

Postby timewarptel » Fri Sep 30, 2022 10:48 am

Hi guys, can anyone help,
So i have mk 6 rwd, and doing the front bearings,
I have a new flange, without the studs, so i have got some studs on ebay.
My question is, these studs are splined, ….probably all wheel studs are, but the studhole on flange isnt splined, probably no flanges are splined, i dont know?
So is this correct, ie that i can use a splined wheelstud, into a unsplined flange? Thanks, terry

I've only ever fitted studs to the rear of a Mk5, and that was the same. I would assume that the splines will collapse to fill the gap, when fitted.

I "drew" mine in by inserting the stud, fitting the wheel and the nut, and just tightening with a breaker bar :)

I've done this on a FWD Mk6 and can confirm that this is correct. I just knocked them out with a big hammer then knocked them into the new flange the same way, with it supported on an open vice. They come out easily. Once the wheel is refitted tighten the wheel nuts as tight as you can (within reason, obviously) to pull the stud in then slacken and torque as usual.
