Transit Mk7 attempted theft *something stuck in ignition*

Postby crowlands27 » Wed Dec 28, 2022 11:35 am

Someone tried to steal my Mk7 transit last night and what looks like a drill bit is lodged in the barrel and snapped. I've found it near impossible to remove. Any suggestions? *EDIT* 2011 plate

Easier to work on it when out of location. Likely a new barrel is needed. The electric connections are at the other end.
Other posts re' key, barrel, electrics on the forum.
Better to know the year, emissions, VIN etc of the vehicle.

It's 2011 and I've added pics if that helps.
How would I remove the barrel if I can't get the ignition to rotate? Thanks

Don't know.
Seems from this image that there is a brass plunger that needs to be moved and there is a spring washer on the end.
If the brass plunger cannot be moved I'd likely grind away the end to get at the drill bit (if that's what it is) so as to turn it anti clockwise.
There are picks for sale so it could be the left over of a pick.

There could be info' on this or another forum as to how to go about it.

Dirty rotten ?+?+/+/#

only advice is put one of these on .......as a deterrent
you could even make something that looks like one
if they see one of these ...i dont think they will bother ..they will pass and head for the next van

these are just thoughts ..wont heklp you now ..but could help yopu in the future.

this i bought for £3.50 from a car boot sale ..its an old halfords one and built like a brick outhouse

yes best to always put a steering lock and a pedal lock on vans .
Tip: remember to put the key side of steering lock away backwards as otherwise they can just drill the key hole on steering lock .

looks like they tried to screwdriver it or possibly tried a key the may have made from door barrel then when it snapped tried to drill it out.

not sure if the barrels are similar enough in transits but you may be able to rebuild a new barrel to fit your key if you are able to extract the pins (was able to do this with my fathers vivaro)
is that rust spot new?

come to think of it those are gouges from needle nose pliers so a failed attempt at extracting their ''key''
