Changing engine. Should i replace injectors.

Postby aarronman » Fri Jan 27, 2023 2:01 am

Hi guys. I recently had a cracked piston and am replacing it with an overhauled engine. My question is, should i replace the injectors and glow plugs during the engine swap?

Get them tested.

A faulty injector can cause the piston failure.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Is there anything else you would recommend changing or checking at this stage ?.

Are you dropping in a complete replacement engine or are you transfering all the ancillaries.

Also what engine ? Diesel ? RWD or FWD, 2.2 or 2.4L

So it's a mk7 2013 2.2 TDCi 125 6 speed RWD. It's a remanufactured engine from transitengine.co.uk. the guy there Paul has been super helpful and the engine is gonna be displatched tomorrow.

I am swapping all the ancillaries over like alternator, turbo, pumps etc. I've already got a turbo cartridge as the old one had the slightest amount of play. So I thought this would be the time to do it.

Is there anything else you'd recommend to swap out or service while I'm in here ?

Depending on you budget and how risk adverse you are.

New flywheel and clutch if your over 25K on the current set. You can do a clutch by pulling the gearbox, but it is much simpler to pull the engine so best to do it now.

New water and vacuum pumps, they are both in the engine oil system so if you need a new turbo cartridge they could be just as wrecked inside.

Ford manual says change the turbo oil feed if changing turbo.

New egr cooler, just because again it's easier now.

Brilliant. I have everything on order and will be changing those items when the new engine arrives (Should be this week).

As per the injectors EUROCARPARTS is selling them for £420 EACH!!

So I absolutely cannot afford a full set. So i think i'll get them tested.

Do you guys have any recommendations on injector testing companies or will most of them carry out a similar test. I'm in aberdeen BTW.

Another idea is if anyone has a set of new/nearly new injectors for sale i'd buy them too. Searching online and they are very very expensive.

Injection parts and testing comes up regularly, PJ Jones are usually recommended.

Also Transit Parts UK have injectors at considerably less than that.
