Replace gear knob...

Postby mariuzzu74 » Thu Mar 23, 2023 7:41 pm

Hi everyone

I have a little problem with my old and damaged gear knob: I tried to unscrew, to pull, but nothing!
It's impossible to remove it?
I'am afraid to force it with a pliers or something else...

My van is a Transit MY 2007, 2.4 Tdci, RWD, 6-speed manual transmission

Thank you.

They are screwed on, had to replace mine 18 months ago. Stupid tight though.

Thanks a lot for the answer.
So I have to lift the plate where the gears are marked and then I'll find the screw, right?

nope there is a screw thread inside the knob it just unscrews from the shaft anticlockwise

Ok and thanks for the reply, but how is it possible that it doesn't move even if you force it to unscrew with both hands?
It's normal?

They are all screwed on, but some have adhesive on the thread as well, so it takes a bit of effort to break the seal

If the knob is being replaced, then get some decent grips on it!

Hi guys,

Yesterday I tried to unscrew this "damn" gear knob and failed, even with the help of big pliers!
Other pieces of plastic on the knob have come off, but it hasn't moved... I don't know what to do.
If I force too much, will I risk breaking some internal connection of the gear lever?

Thanks

Do you have a new gear knob handy..?? If so...have at the old one.....worst it can do is break the plastic. Mine was silly tight too.

No, I don't have the new one.
At the end, after a few tries, I let it go and I'll stick with this old and ruined one... It won't unscrew!!!

Thanks so much for the suggestions
