You probably have a 5.11 ratio currently, a good "All rouder" is the 4.27, which will still allow towing etc. After that a 3.73 is very good. Unless you have all the required tooling to change out the gearset, your best bet is to change the whole rear axle.

110 will be FWD...a 3.73 or 3.58 or any other ratio rear axle won't be much use to you. All you can do is carry it around in the back of your FWD van.

Hi chug thanks for that info mate unfortunately my original axle didn’t have a ratio tag but as s said earlier it run’s at about 50mph @2000rpm so I got another one from a friend that was removed from a mini bus but was also untagged took a gamble painted it fitted new discs and installed it only to find it was exactly the same so must also be a 4.27 so really the question now is if i can’t find a 3.73 ratio will a 3.58 be ok

Fair enough...the Mk7 110 only came in FWD.

If you have a 4.27 axle, that's not too bad for load carrying and general run-about stuff. I have the 4.27 in my van and find it quite OK, ~2600rpm @ 100kmh or 60mph. A 3.73 or lower would be nice but not totally necessary.

If you have a 115 with a fairly decent load on, it may struggle to pull a 3.58 ratio.

Thanks for reply knobrot my work vans a 125hp single wheel rwd running a 3.73 rear axle and at 50mph it’s only running @1500 loaded just sounds nicer and seems smoother than my truck which i only use as a car heaviest thing she carries is my 100kg superjet once in a blue moon that’s why im wondering if i would get away with a 3.58 also what horse power I could get from my ecu without changing it ie would it go to 125hp to help push her along im not after top speed just want to reduce rpms and engine wear hope this makes sense

115 should pull the 3.58 unloaded...you can get the 115's remapped to ~140-ish hp....Martyn (Vantuner) Lewis is the man for this. He's in Ruislip I believe.
